To establish this ranking, La Liste uses an exclusive algorithm that aggregates and weights more than 300 travel guides, rankings, press articles and customer review sites.
Which makes Jörg Zipprick, co-founder (with Philippe Faure) of La liste and designer of this algorithm, say that this new ranking “is the ranking of rankings”.
Italy, the first destination of excellence in Europe, but France is not far away
Unsurprisingly, the United States dominates the ranking with the largest number of establishments appearing in the ranking of The List.
And, two American hotels find themselves on the first steps of the podium: The Peninsula Chicago is positioned in second place worldwide, tied with the French Cheval Blanc Saint-Barth in Saint Barthélémy.
L’Ermitage Beverly Hills ranks third, tied with seven other establishments. Including La Reserve Paris and also the Parisian five-star Le Meurice.
If France, a popular destination for luxury customers, is present in this world TOP, with more than 80 hotels. It is however Italy which, with more than 100 hotels, asserts itself as the first destination of excellence. in Europe.
Other European countries reputed to be historical tourist destinations are obviously present in this ranking. In particular the United Kingdom, or even, but to a lesser extent, Spain, Greece, Switzerland…
However, this first world TOP confirms the strengthening of other international destinations. Particularly the Middle East, which stood out at the beginning of this year with the inauguration of Atlantis The Royal in Dubai. Additionally, Asia is dominated by China, with more than 80 hotels.
Note that The Peninsula Shanghai shares third place in the ranking with seven other establishments.
Best hotel in the world: the 6 major trends
After the downtime and restrictions linked to the Covid pandemic, the hospitality industry is witnessing a resurgence in hotel openings. There is a catch-up effect due to many postponed openings, alongside heightened creativity and the emergence of new concepts marking the world of hospitality.
“Travelers seem to want to make up for lost time, even spend more”, observes La List which has identified, by selecting the best hotels, “major trends”:
-hyper-luxury: “as if the best were not enough, luxury hotels are opening even more luxurious annexes. Renovating at great expense, building without limit. Witness the opening of Atlantis The Royal or those of Cheval Blanc Paris and Bulgari Paris”, observes La List.
-discreet luxury: “This transversal trend implies authenticity but exclusivity, digital detoxification and self-reflection, search for meaning”. “The Habitas group is the winner of the New Hotel Concept award”.
-New nomadism: new travelers are fond of a multitude of new concepts. Such as glamping, mixing glamor and camping with cabins, bodges, minimalist huts.
Luxury train travel is also booming, as are luxury cruises. Discover hotel prices featuring the first Guntû floating ryokan in Japan. This trend extends beyond luxury accommodations to include the Austrian Nightjet night trains connecting Paris and Vienna.
-Art and Instagram: immersive artistic projects -mide, art, history- abound in recent hotel concepts, but photos on Instagram are now also turning into reservations
“Sustainability and eco-responsibility: While many customers are not yet ready to change their habits and requirements. Pioneering hotels have embraced thoughtful environmental rigor.” In this regard, La liste salutes the Mashpi Lodge in Ecuador or the Bambu Indah in Bali. And also “big operators like Six Senses and Four Seasons are also way ahead of this trend”
“Locavorism and authenticity are central to today’s trendiest hotel experiences, emphasizing respect for local places, heritage, communities, and the environment.”
